A Feature Story

For this project we had to make a feature story that was touching. We had to go out and interview someone on a touching topic. Then we had to get a ton of B-roll on the topic. Next we had to take all the information that we learned from the interviewee and make a voice over. Last we edited everything in Premiere.

For the interview I decided I was going to interview my family over our past dog and what it was like losing him and then i also interviewed them on our new dog that we just got and what its like having him. To set up the interview i had to have somewhere where it was bright and and dimension, so i choose my living room and placed them in the corner. I also had to make sure to use my rule of thirds while filming so i placed the camera so they would be in the right corner of the shot looking across the camera to me while i was filming them. I ended up interview my brother and dad. My dad told the more serious answers where my brother had the more goofy answers so they ended up complimenting each other very well in that sense.

After we interviewed the next step was to make the script. This was probably the most challenging part about making the whole project because we had to take the information of what we got from the interviewee and then add even more words to make it sound more "fancy". The hardest part about make the script/voiceover was the introduction because you cant just come out and tell what exactly your video is about. You also have to hook your viewers so they want to keep watching and learn more about your story. The introduction took me a very long time to come up with. I also had trouble make my story flow.

Filming the B-roll for me was a challenge since one of the main "characters" in my film was no longer alive. Luckily I had my photos of him, so i substituted b-roll for photos for that section of the video. But for my new dogs part that was also very challenging since i cant control him so we had to persuade him with treats and had to take many shots of one thing.

In the end i'm very happy with how my video turned out and really enjoyed creating this video. my favorite part about this video was getting and shooting the b-roll and my least favorite part was definitly recording the voice over because i was sick and you can really tell i'm sick by my voice.
